The Outdoor Classroom

Learning in the Great OUtdoors!

The outdoor classroom was established as a collaborative effort between the PBES staff, PWCS, and the PTO.

The goal of the outdoor classroom is to offer a variety of opportunities for students to learn about nature… in nature! While many subjects and classes can take advantage of this outdoor learning space, the science curriculum, in particular, benefits from the existence of the outdoor classroom.

For example, fifth grade students are raising trout eggs in their classrooms. The trout eggs arrived at the beginning of the school year and the students will track their development until they are ready to be released into the wild in the spring. At that point, students and teachers will bring them to the stream near the outdoor classroom and release them!

Kindergarten students visited the outdoor classroom in the fall to collect fallen leaves. They then used those leaves to create and glaze clay bowls in their art classes!
